Make a 320×50 mobile leaderboard ad
The anchored strip that sits at the top or bottom of a mobile screen. It is the smallest standard unit in common use, and every pixel has to earn its place.

Designing for this shape
Three or four words, then stop
There is room for a very short message and a small call to action. Anything more and nothing is legible.
Legibility beats everything
Use the largest type that fits and high contrast against the background. A clever design nobody can read is worse than a plain one they can.
Skip the decoration
No gradients competing with text, no thin strokes, no small logo lockups. At 50 pixels tall detail turns to mush.
Frames and timing
Two frames at most, and consider whether animation helps at all. On a small anchored banner, motion often reads as clutter rather than as storytelling.
File weight
The Google Display Network sets a maximum of 150 KB per creative, applied to both image and HTML5 units. Many networks also cap animation length, commonly at 30 seconds, and require the loop to stop after a small number of repeats.
Every network and placement enforces its own specification, and those change. Confirm the current maximum file size, animation length and format support for the platform you are running on before you publish.
Sizes that pair with it
A campaign is rarely one size. These are the units most often bought alongside 320×50, and one design can be fitted across the whole set with shared margins and synced headlines.

Questions
What size are mobile banner ads?
320x50 is the standard mobile leaderboard. 320x100 is the large mobile banner, giving roughly twice the height for a slightly longer message.
How much can I fit in a 320x50 ad?
A short logo, three or four words, and a small call to action. It is the tightest standard unit in display.
Should a 320x50 banner be animated?
Often not. With so little space, a single clear static message frequently performs better and keeps the file weight down on mobile data.
