Frequently asked questions
Quick, honest answers about the tool, saving, exporting and privacy.
Getting started
Is JUMI Ad Animator really free?
Yes. The whole tool is free to use, with no trial period, no paid tier and no watermarks on your exports. You can make and download as many ads as you like, for personal or commercial work.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email required. Open the editor and start designing straight away.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
Ad Animator runs in any modern desktop or tablet browser, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Phones are not supported: the canvas and panels need more screen space than a phone can offer, so visitors on phones see a notice asking them to switch to a larger device.
How are my projects saved?
Your work auto-saves to your browser's local storage as you design, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off on the same device. For a backup, or to move work between devices, you can also download your project as a .json file and open it again later. Bear in mind that clearing your browser data will remove auto-saved projects, so keep .json copies of anything important.
Designing
How do frames work?
An ad is built as a sequence of frames, and each frame is a slide with its own duration. Played in order, the frames tell a short story: typically a hook, a benefit and a call to action. You can preview the whole animation at any time and adjust each frame's timing individually. Our guide to how frame animation works covers this in detail.
What is the difference between Cut and Smooth?
Cut, the default, switches cleanly from one frame to the next, exactly the way most real ad-network banners behave, and it keeps exported files small. Smooth tweens elements between frames so they glide from one position or style to another. Cut is the safe choice for display advertising; Smooth suits social posts and situations where file weight matters less.
Can I make one design in several sizes?
Yes. A single project can hold a multi-size ad set, and the "Copy & fit" feature rebuilds an existing design on each new size: backgrounds stretch to cover, logos and buttons keep to their corners and margins, and text scales with sensible minimum sizes. Campaign-wide margins and guides keep placement identical across formats, headline text stays in sync between sizes as you edit, and the Preview button plays the whole set side by side before you export. Between extreme shapes - a tall half-page into a thin leaderboard, say - you may still want to nudge an element or two, and the editor warns you if any text no longer fits.
Are there templates?
There are six templates: real estate, travel, SaaS, events, retail and restaurant. Each is a complete three-frame ad built as hook, benefit, call to action, so you can swap in your own text, colours and images rather than starting from a blank canvas.
Can I upload my own images and logo?
Yes. You can upload photos, artwork and your logo, and use them as backgrounds or as individual elements on the canvas. Uploaded images stay on your device: they are stored in your browser, never sent to a server. There is also a searchable icon library, shape tools and shade overlays for keeping text readable over photos.
Exporting
Which export format should I use?
It depends on where the ad will run. Use the HTML5 banner package for Google Ad Manager and most modern ad servers, an animated GIF where HTML5 is not accepted or a simple image ad is easier, MP4 video for social platforms, animated WebP for your own website, and static PNG or JPG when no animation is needed. Our guide to exporting for ad platforms walks through each case.
How do I keep my GIF under the ad network's size limit?
Google Display's reference limit is 150 KB per creative, with roughly 30 seconds of animation and limited looping. The GIF export gives you a target-file-size control in KB, plus colour count and dithering settings, and a best-quality option that builds a separate palette for every frame. Fewer frames, fewer colours and simpler photographic areas all shrink the file: see GIF weight limits explained and keeping GIF file size down.
What is in the HTML5 banner package?
You can export either a single self-contained HTML file or a ZIP containing the HTML plus its assets, whichever your ad server prefers. The package is accepted by Google Ad Manager and most modern ad servers.
Why is my MP4 export smaller than my canvas?
The H.264 video encoder has maximum dimensions, so very large canvas sizes are automatically capped to fit within them when exporting MP4. Standard social sizes such as 1080×1080 posts and 1080×1920 stories export at full size.
Can I export at higher resolution?
Yes. Exports can be rendered at 1x, 2x or 3x the design size. Higher resolutions look crisper on high-density screens but produce larger files, so for display ads with strict weight limits, 1x is usually the right choice.
Usage and privacy
Who owns the ads I make?
You do. Everything you create in Ad Animator is yours, and you can use it commercially: in client work, paid campaigns, anywhere. There are no watermarks and no licence fees.
Where are my designs stored?
Only in your own browser. The tool runs entirely locally: your designs, images and exports never leave your device, and there is no server-side account holding your work. If you want an off-device copy, download the project as a .json file.
How does the AI generation work, and does it see my data?
AI is optional and bring-your-own: you connect the editor to an AI provider with your own API key (Google Gemini has a free tier), or to a model running entirely on your computer with LM Studio or Ollama, with Draw Things for background images - that option is completely private, because your brief never reaches an AI provider. The AI writes the ad copy, picks from a set of hand-tuned colour palettes, and can paint background images (one per ad, or one per frame); you also choose the frame count and total run time to match your ad network's rules; the layout, sizing and animation are always built by the editor itself, and everything arrives as normal editable layers. With a cloud provider, your brief goes directly from your browser to that provider - there is no JUMI server in between, and we never see your key or your text. Keys are stored only in your browser and never in project files. See our guide to running the AI on your own hardware.
What about cookies and the consent banner?
The site uses a first-party consent banner, and non-essential cookies (such as analytics) stay off unless you accept them. The tool itself works fully whichever choice you make. The details are in our privacy notice and cookie policy, and you can change your choice at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer.
